PRV-16 Gets a Second Life
OJSC “Research Institute of Electronic Computers” (NIIEVM) has successfully completed the upgrade of another PRV-16-BM.04 mobile height finder radar and handed it over to the air defence forces.
Around 90% of components and systems in the upgraded PRV-16-BM.04 radar were manufactured by the NIIEVM using modern element base. The height finder radar features enhanced ergonomics and convenience of operator’s work at the workstation powered by a specialized computer with a two-window interface. The radar can exchange information with the RIF automation aids and receive information from the ADS-B system. The PRV height finder radar also supports remote control of its operation modes and performance monitoring from a remote workstation.
The upgrade also involved a renovation of the low-noise high-frequency transistor amplifier to enhance the PRV’s receive path sensitivity, resistance to interference and reliability.
The broad scope and the high quality of the upgrade works involving modern element base ensured an 8-year extension of the height finder radar’s service life, while the implemented technologies significantly improved the radar’s performances, including its faultless operation.
The performance characteristics of the PRV-16-BM.04 mobile height finder radar enable effective detection and tracking of both modern and next-generation small-sized aircraft.
