High technologies for nature protection by SAMI: OJSC “Peleng” presented an experimental model of a unique satellite gas analyser for monitoring methane

At St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, which took place in St. Petersburg from 7 to 10 October 2025, OJSC “Peleng” presented for the first time an experimental model of a space-based satellite gas analyser for detecting methane emissions.

The satellite gas analyser is designed for remote detection of local natural and anthropogenic methane emissions, as well as for measuring methane concentrations above the natural background in the frame.

The gas analyser detects methane during route surveys and detailed surveys of individual objects with pitch deceleration, which allows monitoring both point and extended emission sources. It has no equivalents in the CIS countries and is characterised by its high sensitivity, wide band and high spatial resolution. Its small weight and dimensions allow the equipment to be installed on microsatellites, small spacecraft and space laboratories.

OJSC “Peleng” proprietary software, supplied with the relevant equipment, allows for processing images received from the spacecraft and vizualizing emission data in a user-friendly format.
