First Belarusian Communications Satellite Launched 10 Years Ago
It has been ten years since the first Belarusian communications satellite was launched. This project ushered in a new era of telecommunications, laying the foundation for initiatives that significantly strengthen the country’s position on the global stage.
Belintersat-1 was launched into geostationary orbit at an altitude of over 35,000 kilometers. The satellite is designed for 15 years of operation and has fully justified the investment over the past decade. It provides stable television and radio broadcasting, broadband internet access, and the delivery of television programs to cable operators.
Two transponders are reserved for Belarus, and some capacity is leased to foreign operators. Belintersat-1’s coverage area encompasses Eastern Europe, Central and East Asia, and Africa. This allows Belarus not only to meet its own telecommunications needs but also to enter the international services market.
